Safety, acceptability, and adherence to a dolutegravir-based regimen among adults living with HIV at Kenyatta National Hospital

Background: Dolutegravir-based therapy was rolled-out in Kenya 2017 with limited safety studies the country and Africa. This study sought to assess profile adverse drug reactions, acceptability, adherence newly rolled out dolutegravir-based regimens among HIV patients attending Kenyatta National Hospital.Methods: a cross-sectional conducted between November December 2019 at national hospital comprehensive care clinic. Through systematic random sampling, sample of 219 adult on antiretroviral regimen were recruited interviewed for experience adherence, acceptance using researcher-administered questionnaire. Descriptive analysis IBM SPSS V 21 software. The alpha set p≤0.005.Results: A-quarter (24.7%, n=54) reported experiencing drug-related reactions. most frequent reaction insomnia (24.1%, n=19), followed by headaches (19.0%, n=15) skin reactions (13.9%, n=11). least cited vomiting (2.5%. n=2). Most (87.3%, n=69) mild (grade 1 reactions), very few (7.6%, n=6) them being severe (toxicity grade 3). Only 2 (0.9%) resulted switch. Adherence high (97.3%, n=213), 90.4% (n=198) accept new regimen.Conclusions: Adult living experienced some reactions; mostly resolved without medical intervention. Generally, had an acceptable profile, rate reported.
